Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Often the patterns of behavior that accompany addiction are just as difficult to quiet as the substance itself. If you find yourself attempting to stop or slow down your substance use, only to find yourself picking it back up again and again, it could mean that you need a deeper type of therapy than you have received in the past. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT, can help identify rooted belief systems that may be holding you back and create sustainable change.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Whether its childhood experiences or simply the trauma of chronic addiction, many of us have developed behavior patterns that are self-destructive and lead us back to our addiction. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a type of therapy that recognizes that these destructive behaviors stem from inner beliefs we hold. These beliefs drive our thinking and therefore our behavior. For example, if you have the belief “I am not good enough” this belief will drive your thinking and shape everything you do and experience. CBT therapy is an important part of our work at Casa Colina and we utilize it to get to the root causes of addiction so that you can walk free for a lifetime.

How Does CBT Work?

During your individualized therapy sessions, you’ll identify negative thought patterns that may be now second nature to you. Our Master’s level clinicians will help you examine your life, coping skills, and thoughts behind them. CBT is rooted on the cornerstone that many of your negative thought patterns are learned, and therefore can be unlearned.
